Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the Syria-Türkiye earthquakes and the thousands of aftershocks over the past two weeks. Thousands of buildings, including homes and hospitals, have been destroyed. Tens of thousands passed, families and communities have been lost or separated, and many are left with no home or warm clothes. Helping the injured, amputated, mentally stressed, and rebuilding efforts will take months of effort.
Although a future with better earthquake detection technology to reduce damage and prevent loss is scientifically far away, we can still take immediate steps to support those affected. This includes advocating for better policies, reliable architecture, and citizen awareness.
On a personal level, we can lend a hand or ear to those affected and provide impactful donations. If you choose to donate, cash is always king (quickly gets directly to those who need it with the flexibility to be used to get what is most needed), but you can also make online contributions to registered organizations that can provide receipts, such as the International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation, the Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders. They are out there providing food and supplies, medical assistance, shelter, water, and support to those in need.
To help those affected, we have also added the ability to round up your Sende order when viewing your cart to donate to the Canadian Red Cross and to Doctors Without Borders.
